I have 8 years of experience using both Visual and User Experience Design to make beautiful, intuitive products that help customers and businesses reach their goals.  

A Texas native, I made my way to the Bay Area after studying Visual Communications and Photography. For the next 4 years, I used my design skills to create branding, packaging, and point-of-sale materials while learning about the role that design plays in helping a company create cohesive branding and messaging for its customers. For the last 4 years, I’ve built upon those design skills to understand how to better facilitate the interactions between people and the digital products they use. 

My approach to design utilizes user research, prototyping, usability testing, frequent iteration, and a collaboration not only with engineering and product teams, but with all those departments whose expertise contributes to a more well-rounded understanding of both business and user goals in order to create the best possible user experience for customers. 

 

My Path to User Experience Design

I studied Visual Communications and Photography, using both mediums to explore ideas about identity as fragmented, multi-faceted, and continually evolving. My work focused on Asian-American Identity and post-colonial cultural production. Therefore, packaging projects inevitably became studies in how identities (both personal and commercial) were created and boxed, and how the stories and histories of people affected the way they navigated the world and made sense of their own experiences.

The transition from Visual Design to User Experience Design began at the intersection between my interest in individual human motivation and my experience working with companies seeking to better understand their customers' goals - and pains. 

I became passionate about User Experience Design because it requires you to understand the people you design for, their needs - and to an extent - the history and circumstances that influenced the creation of those needs. I continue to be passionate about User Experience Design because I want to design not just for myself, but for others - to serve a community and to help people understand and make sense of their world the way design helped me make sense of my own.

Ultimately, I'd like to be a part of the process that seeks to design a better, more accessible world for everyone.
